INTRODUCTION

Career is the process and actions taken by a person to achieve lifetime goals by his occupation.

[1] There are various career options for persons to make life pleasant and relax like medical, dental, ayurevedic, physiotheraphy, enginerring, law, commerce, arts and business. The medical faculty is the best faculty as they serve the human beings by treating the patients and give them new life ,so many parents want there children to become Doctor. So selecting the right career is a sure thing for success in life. [2]. The students should be motivated in choosing a career in the health professions mainly in the field of dentistry. The dental education system in India is at present one of the largest in the world. It was started after the establishment of the Calcutta Dental College and Hospital in 1924 by Dr.Rafiuddin Ahmed [3].The total number of dental colleges approved by DCI in India is more than 300,and approximately above 25000 dentist passes out every year [4]. The ratio of estimated dentist to population according to WHO is 1:7500 [3]. In recent 10 years, the dentist population ratio in India has increased considerably because of increase in the number of colleges and number of dental graduates passingout every year. The recent dentist population ratio in remote cities in India is 1:10,000. Student’s inspiration for choosing a career in the medical faculty is of immense concern for admission committees and educators, mainly in the field of dentistry [5]. The satisfaction of every dentist plays an important role for further dental education. [6]. There is a severe short of authentic and valid data for evaluation of dental students’ motivations to go in and attitudes about the field of dentistry in India. The choice of a career of every individual is prejudiced generally by advice from parents, relatives, friends, teachers, and counselors and only few take there own decision [7]. The selection for the choice of a career is a important decision because it has an noticeable impact on the individuals’ future life .[8]Recently , the students admitted to dentistry is moving back as the rapid growth in the number of dentists in each city tends to discourage students. There are few candidates who feel that the bigger competition would limit their expectations and earnings [9].The specialized socialization starts with the entrance to the dental college and continues through the entire study period of four year and one year internship of the student.

During the internship students are expected to have a good clinical skill and have a firm theoretical background about the subject.

At the interns stage, it is very significant for the undergraduates to recognize students' motives for choosing dentistry and their views regarding the future of dentistry to preserve a motivated workforce [10].

So the study was conducted to assess the choice of dentistry, dental education, profession and to assess the future career options of students after the BDS.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The interns of the dental college were given questionnaire and asked few question about carrer, and dentistry.Total 100 students were included in the study. In the study 80 females were present (80%) and 20 males were prsenet (20%).The data was collected and tabulated.
